Ephemera
Ephemera
Configuration options - Open Documents of Social LifeDocuments of Social Life (DŻS) is a highly diverse collection that includes compact prints, periodicals, pamphlets, iconography, audiovisual materials and, in small numbers, artifacts.
Chronologically, the materials date back to the 19th century, but the majority of the resource consists of documents produced in the 20th and 21st centuries.
The thematic range of the collected material is also extensive, consisting of polonica, documents relating to the region, materials related to the University of Gdansk, a collection on the democratic opposition and the rise and activities of the "Solidarity" social movement, and theatrical items.
Democratic opposition
The history of the resource dates back to the period of the emergence of "Solidarity." Thanks to the efforts of the NSZZ "Solidarity" circle of the University of Gdansk, publications of independent circles began to flow into the library. In the mid-1980s, a "library fund" was established to ensure a steady supply of second-circulation materials.
The rich collection includes periodicals, compact prints and ephemeral prints, among them a large collection of placards, posters and calendars.
Regionalia
Noteworthy among the materials relating to our region is a collection of several hundred postcards from Pomerania, as well as materials relating to the maritime economy in its broadest sense.
University of GdanskThe library collects materials documenting the history of the establishment and activities of the University of Gdansk.
There is also documentation of the Higher School of Pedagogy in Gdansk and the Higher School of Economics in Sopot. Particularly valuable in this collection
is the rich photographic material.
Theatricals
Theatricals began to be collected in the Special Collections Department in 2006. Most of the collection is documentation relating to the theatrical life of the Tri-City. These are mainly posters, programs and theatrical invitations.
