"Wiritten in the Cards. 55 Years of the University of Gdańsk"

The exhibition "Written in the Cards. 55 Years of the University of Gdańsk" is a selection of 55 cards from the card catalog and online catalog of the University of Gdańsk Library. The works of UG lecturers described on these cards have been collected by the Library since its inception. By looking at the cards, we follow the history of our university.

We present a small part of what can be seen in the UG Main Library. We invite you to watch the film.

Curator of the exhibition: dr Katarzyna Wawrzynkowska, graphic design: Dominika Skutnik, cooperation: Katarzyna Dunajska

Citius, Altius, Fortius - Faster, Higher, Stronger. Olympiads in magazines 1896-1936

Sport is power. There is power in sport. Look at how it was slowly born in the first modern Olympics from 1896 onwards, how it developed over the following years to take an alarming form in Berlin in 1936.

Catch a glimpse of the athletes and sportsmen, it was from their struggles against each other, against themselves, that the strength of spirit was born. We hope that by looking at the exhibition you will see what we saw; the passion, the commitment, the joy and the fun, the stories of people who loved sport.

We have prepared the exhibition from the collections of the Library of the University of Gdańsk and the Library of the Academy of Physical Education, based on journals from the years 1883-1936: Biesiada Literacka, Bluszcz, Kłosy, Tygodnik Ilustrowany, Wędrowiec, Mucha, Sport, Ilustrowany Kuryer Codzienny (plus supplements), Stadjon, Sportowiec. In addition, we present the collections of both libraries in the form of books on Olympic themes. Graphic additions include maps and plans of Olympic cities of the period.

The exhibition could be viewed from 11 October until the end of November 2024 at the UG Main Library.

Our sincere thanks go to the staff of the AWFiS Library for their help in preparing the materials for the exhibition and lending valuable copies.

We invite you to watch a short film promoting the exhibition, the author of which is Rafał Mielczarek.

Open Access Games Day

On October 23, the UG Library hosted Open Access Games Day, an event organized as part of International Open Access Week.

The goal of the event was to engage participants with modern trends in publishing and research data management while promoting open science through interactive board games. Attendees had the opportunity to take part in board games focused on open science, including FAIR Factor and DMPolly, which explores research data security in scientific projects. Additionally, games inspired by Taboo, Dobble, and Memory were available. The topics were serious but presented in a light and interactive way.

We invite you to watch a short video recap of the event!
