"Moving Images". An exhibition of works by Maciej Jarczyński at the UG Main Library

Moving Images. An exhibition of works by Maciej Jarczyński at the University of Gdańsk Main Library

How can one capture the dynamics of the movements of dancers, instrumentalists, singers or a conductor through visual art? You’ll find the answer by visiting Maciej Jarczyński’s exhibition of drawings and paintings – ‘Moving Images’ – which has been on display at the Main Library of the University of Gdańsk (room 1.21 on the first floor) since Saturday 30 May.

Most of the works on display in the exhibition refer in various ways to the concept of movement. Some of them can be seen in Maciej Jarczyński’s latest multi-part film, *The Stake War*, from 2025. Others were created with new audiovisual projects in mind. The exhibition will also feature works in which the artist has visually captured the movement of figures – dancers, instrumentalists, vocalists and a conductor.

Maciej Jarczyński is an independent filmmaker, musician and visual artist. He was born in Chojnice. He is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk (Art Education) and the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk (Choral Conducting). He also completed postgraduate studies at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków (Cultural Management) and was awarded a doctoral degree from the University of Gdańsk (Film Studies). He completed his doctoral thesis at the Department of Media Art within the Faculty of Graphic Arts and Media Art at the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław.

Between 2011 and 2017, he served as assistant conductor of the Academic Choir of the University of Gdańsk. Since 2016, he has been a teacher of music and multimedia design at the Magdalena Abakanowicz State Secondary School of Fine Arts in Gdynia, and since 2019, a lecturer at the Sopot Academy of Applied Sciences. Since 2025, he has also been teaching at the University of Gdańsk as part of the Andrzej Wajda Film Centre.

The exhibition is open until the end of June.
