Access to the Library collections

Borrowing of books - rules of use

1. Only the user with a valid library account may borrow books. The document which enables borrowing of books is: electronic ID card - in the case of students from FarU and library card - other users.

2. an account is valid for 365 days from moment of its creation. After one year, it has to be renewed (extended) in any Library of the University of Gdansk circulation desk by presenting a valid student card or student index (students of the University of the Third Age). The renewal fee is charged according to the Price List. You can also
send e-mail to the circulation desk staff (wypozyczalnia@ug.edu.pl) with a request for prolongation and, after receiving a reply, send a confirmation of the transfer.

3 Request a book. If all copies of a title are borrowed, the book can be reserved. The date and place of collection will be specified in the return e-mail. Reservations that are not collected by the deadline are cancelled and the books are returned to the shelf.

4 Students are allowed to borrow 20 books per month (including CDs/DVDs, audiobooks), with the possibility of a renewal period. The maximum time for all extensions of the due date is 90 days. Detailed readers' permissions are described in the Information desk - readers' permissions section. 

5 Fees for exceeding the due date for returning library materials are charged according to the Price List.

(6) Until the overdue books are returned and the fine is paid, the reader is deprived of the right to borrow the collection. The reader is informed by e-mail about the approaching return date of the borrowed materials.

7 Ordering books for departments. This service is aimed at UG staff, doctoral students and students with an active library account, with no arrears. Within this service, books can be ordered from the book collection available for loan from both the Main Library and specialist libraries (except the Oceanographic Reading Room in Gdynia). Ordered books can be collected from the library of your choice, but not earlier than the day after placing the order. The exceptions are orders for books from the Economic Library in Sopot and the Cultural History Library in Gdańsk, which will be fulfilled twice a week: Monday and Thursday. Ordered books can be returned to any library.

8. books can only be ordered to the pickup locker from the Main Library. 

9. Selfcheck - there is a device for self-lending of the collection on the first floor of the Main Library.

The reading rooms - rules of use

1 From the reading room can used by anyone interested in the book collection without registering in the library.

(2) There are three forms of access to the collections in the reading rooms in the University of Gdansk Library facilities:

Open stacks
Collections in open stacks are arranged according to catalogue numbers - Libary of the University of Gdansk 1st floor, according to subject classification (Reading Rooms I, II and III), and within sections - alphabetically: by author or title - in the case of a collective work. To find the item you need, check the online catalogue for the location of the copy, e.g. Main Library - Reading Room II, and the classification, i.e. the section number, e.g. L.15.10.6.3.2 Rusinek (see Open Stacks). This book can also be ordered for the pickup locker - button ‘Order’. This option is only available at the University of Gdansk Main Library.
