It is a document describing the activities performed by researchers at every stage of their work with scientific data. The purpose of DMP is to depict which data were obtained or generated , how the research team is going to manage them, how they will be described, analysed, stored and which tools will be used to publish and archive the data after finalizing the project.
„It is required in projects financed by NCN and within Horizon 2020 programme.”
Research data
They are various materials gathered and created in the process of scientific research; defined as registered material of factographic nature, acknowledged by scientific community as indispensable to evaluate the scientific research results.
They could be: numeric data, text documents, notes, questionnaires, questionnaire results, audio and video recordings, photographs, databases contents, software, computer simulations results, methodological protocols, laboratory observations.
Opening data
In justified cases it is possible that the data are not published (eg. because of legal issues). However, more and more often publishing data is required by financing agencies.
National Science Centre position:
Open Access should be granted in case of the data that are basic for the published results in order to enable their verification. The data should be made available at the moment of publishing. In other respects the decision is up to the researcher, who should consider any formal and legal limitations or other depicted in the justification.
The European Comission position:
The European Comission is convinced that access or using the information obtained in the process financed by public money should be free of charge. Both European companies and citizens should be able to fully benefit from it.
The data should meet the requirements of FAIR DATA:
F - Findable- possible to be found by people and algorithms
A - Accessible- available
I- Interoperable – possible to be read by people and algorithms
R - Reusable- possible to be used again
It is recommended that data are published in a certified data repository.
Examples of data repositories:
• Zenodo
• Repod
